Update on our Mission Trip to Kenya (Juja)
BBSI owns 5 acres of land in Kenya (Juja) its current mission and focus is to build a children’s orphanage.
So, on 17th to 30th May 2008, BBSI Trustees went to Kenya (Juja) on a mission trip. It was the first time that any of the Trustees had visited since the boys dormitory was completed in 2007.
The locals call the area Juja-Farm.
When we saw the dormitory we were so excited and amazed at how beautiful it was. On the inside, there are four dormitories which will hold approximately 40 boys altogether. And there are seven spacious showers, four toilets, 2 urinals and three washbasins.
In addition, there is a kitchen, bedroom and en-suite bathroom for the House parents. Quite remarkably, whilst we were there our dedicated caretaker built a chicken pen, which is now home to 50 hens.
Throughout the entire two weeks God reminded us that he was with us and we can testify that he blessed everything we did in a mighty way.
The aim of the mission was to furnish the boys dormitory. We therefore did a lot of shopping and purchased bunk beds, chairs, tables, shower curtains, cutlery, utensils, cooker, fridge-freezer and many other types of furnishings.
Our driver willingly transported by van several of the things that we bought, from the Town to the orphanage.
We believed that God ‘hand-picked’ our driver, as indeed, he was always ready to lend a hand. He did not just confine himself to driving us about but he was also helpful with advocating on our behalf,
readily interpreting for us and advising us on prices etc.
We stand in awe of the goodness of God and all that he has done through everyone who have supported us in finance, word and deed over the seven years since we started. We are indeed grateful.
Our vision remains big and we need to continue with this good work. Our next major project is building the girls dormitory, the kitchen and dining area and then the dormitory for the babies.
We also have plans to utilise the remaining parts of the land/farm, by structuring a playground and harvesting crops (vegetation, grain and fruit) to feed the lovely children and supply individuals and companies in order to become financially efficient.
